The Virgins and ASCAP: Did A Performance Rights Organization Do Anything For Us?
In 1995 I moved back to my hometown of Milwaukee with a group of college friends to start a band. We called ourselves The Virgins. Over the next five years this name would prove to be somewhat prescient. We played hundreds of shows throughout the Midwest, recorded one six-song cassette and two CDs, and made a lot of naive assumptions.

Eagle Rock Entertainment Presents Jewel - Live At Humphrey's By The Bay
By,

Eagle Rock Entertainment offers Jewel fans a chance to experience an up-close, intimate concert by the singer/songwriter with the release of Jewel - Live At Humphrey's By The Bay. Shot in 2001, Jewel's first-ever live DVD showcases her charismatic, boundary-crossing style at its absolute finest. Live At Humphrey's By The Bay, shot in her hometown of San Diego, mixes in rare gems such as "Rosy and Mick" and "Everything Breaks Sometime" with many of her best-known songs. Jewel - Live At Humphrey's By The Bay will be available March 23, 2004 on DVD.

Jewel - Live At Humphrey's By The Bay features material from her 2001 album, This Way, including "Break Me," "The New Wild West," and "Grey Matter." Jewel also performs a number of her earlier hits, including "Who Will Save Your Soul" and "You Were Meant for Me." Bonus features include a photo gallery; three bonus live songs shot at various stops on the road to San Diego; an "On The Road" video which captures lighter, behind the scenes moments; a previously unseen interview; and a discography.

When Jewel emerged onto the national scene in 1995, she presented an acoustic, folk-based sound which stood in marked contrast to the musical mainstream of the time. Her debut Atlantic album, Pieces of You, earned the RIAA's prestigious Diamond Award for U.S. sales of over 11 million copies. Spirit followed in 1998, featuring the smash hit "Hands," and confirming Jewel's status as one of the most gifted and accomplished artists of our time. She has continued to explore fresh avenues, branching out from her folk roots to incorporate rock, pop, dance, country, blues, jazz, and classical influences into her work. Jewel's most recent album, 0304, was the highest-debuting and highest-charting album of her career to date.
